I'll never buy netgear again
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 13/06/2005

Absolutely appauling technical support, blatently trying to waste time to bump up their income from the call. The router drops it's connection regularly (possibly due to longer line length) and makes no attempt to auto reconnect, so a manual reset by pulling the plug out is required! Technical support just talk through instructions on the screen and are incapable of independent thought... I shan't be buying from netgear again.

Big Frustrations
Reviewed by . Review Posted 25/04/2005

I've finally given up after frequent problems over the past 6 months and switched to a different manufacturer. Product is easy to install and use and tech support is always accomodating (I've gotten to know them well). But I've had real reliability problems w/ dropped connections. They exchanged 1st unit after 3 months. 2nd worked for a while but now having problems again, even after firmware updates. Netgear now wants me to exchange again - the straw that broke the camel's back.

dropping signal

cant get it to hold the signal - I'm a novice and took a long time to make the decision to buy this kit along with the most expensive Netgear wireless card - more than a little frustrated but will persist

Hmmm ...
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 09/02/2004

I upgraded OK to 1.03 before I read the warnings!
Not used in wireless mode, yet but has worked OK ish for me. Has a most annoying habit of not reconnecting correctly when my ADSL line goes down (as it does frequently). So, needs a reboot or palaver logging in as admin (which is limited to one user per session) and manually disconnecting / connecting again.
Don’t know what other manufactures units are like but maybe think twice before buying this one.

This is not a good unit in my experience
Reviewed by Dave. Review Posted 30/01/2004

THis unit in my experience has big firmware issues either loading the firmware will fail or the firware makes it unstable. To set it up is a dodle but this is the second unit netgear has sent me to replace a prior bad firmware load which there support didn't know could be fixed with there own util as a post here suggests. That took five days and now the new router is even worse with the very latest firmware on it. My advice is stay away from this unit for a few months. Im sure someone out there has it working like a dream but two different units for me now and not one that works smells of a turkey..

Don't Buy This! - Support Is Hopeless
Reviewed by . Review Posted 14/07/2004

On the face of it this was a great piece of kit. However the support for it is non-existant and when configured as per instructions with it as the DHCP server it literally takes forever to log in to any of my PCs on the network and is therefore unusable. After several weeks of trying to get support I concluded that there isn't any - I note others have a similar view. The item is now gathering dust and I am currently looking for a straightforward Wireless access point to at least get my laptop wirelessly connected.

Netgear won't talk to Netgear!
Reviewed by George. Review Posted 14/09/2006

I bought this with a Netgear PCI adapter thinking they would would work together straight out of the box. Unfortunately the router could not be found although the lights would cycle as they should. Phoned Netgear and spent many pounds before they decide that it must be faulty. DABS sent me a credit note immediately (I think by law they ought to make a refund but I'm not bothered as I buy a lot from DABS) The worst problem was that the PCI card screwed up my dial up connection and I could not restore it even after removing the card and uninstalling. Now using my wife's laptop while waiting for a different manufacturers combo to come from DABS. Definitely NOT recommended!

Age: 1 Year
Reviewed by John. Review Posted 21/08/2005

Well, bought this router just over a year ago. It got off to a unstable start and a few firmware updates fixed that problem. It was working well for 6-8 months and then the router died. It is unable to connect to the internet but I can can share files and printer over the network. Im guessing the modem died and now I have a glorified paper-weight since dabs won't allow me to send the product back even with its 2 year warranty. I recommend you think hard before getting this, the original release of firmware was rubbish and only version 1.5.0 worked for me.

unreliable, no support - v disappointing
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 22/11/2004

Out of the box, the router worked fine for a day or so, then wireless went down and the router required a reboot. and another reboot, and another, and then a firmware upgrade, then another firmware upgrade. I still dont no whether its stable or not.. it seems ok for now, but then again its only an hour since i update the firmware to the latest 1.0.5.

Netgear support is v.poor. and dabs.com support is none existent.

Since buying this product, i have seen so many disappointed people, all with similar problems and no solution. I wish i'd chosen a different one - put it that way

DON' T BUY THIS ROUTER
Reviewed by Dan. Review Posted 16/01/2006

Buy something that works properly and has decent support. I bought one of these 8 months ago. It worked fine until my broadband line was upgraded to 2Mb and now the router won't sync reliably. (A cheap usb modem works fine as a temporary replacement). Netgear support is slow and near useless. I ended up returning the router via Dabs. A replacement was sent out from Netgear (they probably have warehouses full of them) but out of the box was it was even worse. Even after a firmware upgrade I'm giving up on it. The Linksys WAG354G looks better and cheaper. Check out the Netgear run forums if you want to see the long list of problems people are having this this family of router.
