Excellent product

This is a great router for home and for small office. I have around 40 of these rolled out for my staff and the fact I can configure it remotely is a real help. The latest firmware also gives you the ability to connect to the router using a VPN either from a client PC or with another router. The only thing I can't do is remotely flash the firmware but that is not a problem for home users anyway!

Very simple

Very easy for home use - combined mine with WG311T PCI cards & WG111T usb via laptop. Off and running in 5 minutes.
All the problems subsequently encountered were caused by Norton Internet security -it appears this product just don't like wireless!

Never a problem
Reviewed by Mike. Review Posted 13/11/2005

we are a bunch of normal uni students who all use this router HEAVILY [and i mean lots]. Never had a problem with it. I think the main flaw in networking is the crappy software that comes with network cards.

Brilliant! Worth every penny! And soo easy to setup!!

This is such a good product! Just plug it in, click "Yes", then "Next" and it sets everything up automatically, and that's it!! Nothing else to do!! It was up and running in LESS than 5 mins, and I'm not exactly the best with computers! I have it with AOL and so far not one problem at all, though you have to lower the MTU size to 1400. The range is also brilliant. I seem to always have full reception all around the house. Worth every penny.

Easy installation
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 20/04/2005

I have now installed several DG834G's at various customers and have not encountered any problems. It is worth pointing out that if it is being used to connect to AOL then you will need to reduce the MTU size down to 1400. Something I think Netgear should put in the manual. Aprat from that a very good product.

Does what it says on the tin!

After reading some of the reviews, I did wonder if I'd made the right choice. It has now been running for 856 hours (35 days) without a single problem. I took it out of the box, connected it and ran through the setup wizard, made one change to MTU size for AOL and that's it.
Can't recommend it highly enough, wireless range is over 60 feet through five concrete block walls!

superb

Had no problems with this at all, excellent admin interface and very quick to set up. I was new to both ADSL and Wireless and had both working well.

Range is excellent, have used it in the garden. I suggest anyone having problems should look at the quality of their PC wireless card first.

A great ADSL wireless modem/router
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 10/02/2004

The only draw back with this unit is the price. It is certainly no 'Plug and Pray' device. I plugged it into the computer and into the phone socket at the other, and within moments was up and running on my newly installed ADSL line. The menu driven controlling software has loads of usefull features both for home and business use, especially site blocking and a time limiting schedule, and its setup wizard sorts the setting out and detects your ISP for you. Would recommend using quality (and therfore usually more expensive) microfilters, as cheap ones may cause problems. Also stay clear of the current firmware upgrade which is known to cause problems.

Neat all-in-one wireless ADSL gear
Reviewed by . Review Posted 09/02/2004

Neat, easy to install and use product. Pretty quick installation. Note that DO NOT UPGRADE the 'FIRMWARE' from the NetGear website as that s/w patch is corrupted and will disable your router. You'll need to get an exe file from NetGear called 'DG834 Recovery Utility' that will fix this problem.

Great option for IT guys within the Netgear range
Reviewed by Nami IT Solutions Ltd. Review Posted 17/08/2007

Great option if you are a pro and require a ADSL wireless modem router with VPN support however you will require a Netgear VPN software/licence to configure/activate the link. We use these on regular basis however decided to use Linksys recently to compare differences. Please note that the wireless is only a standard 54g connection.
