Write a review for the NetGear DG834G Wireless BT ADSL Modem/Router & Firewall 802.11g here!
Previously used linksys and dlink routers until installing for an AOL customer......Simply put...fantastic unit....Very simple, just works and definatley the best looking unit for the price, very Mac (Slick!)
Whilst waiting for the DG834G to come into stock, I read lots of reviews - all overwhelmingly positive about this item.
Installation was very simple - install your network cards etc, plug the DG834g in, give it your broadband login and password and it pretty well does the rest for you. Do be patient while it autodetects.
There is no software to install and yes it does work with BT Broadband.
The only glitches I had were due to the earlier wired and wireless network configurations on my PCs - moving cards and changing addresses which I needed to correct.
I now have a PC and Lap Top linked wired at 100 Mbps and 2 PCs on relatively old 802.11b USB adapters, sharing disk, printers, using file sharing flawlessly. I will be uprating one PC to 802.11g when the card arrives later this week.
Overall an excellent piece of kit - if you need a firewall / router / ADSL Modem - look no further.
Once one person in the office got one everyone wanted one. NOt bad for a Technical IT Department. Had a few problems with set up though (Down to a defuct proxy server configuration in my internet explorer preventing me from connecting to the router). Once XP was back to default settings it all went very well. Firewall rules and port forwarding are the next little config project, so any ideas...?
Set up in half an hour - quite an instinctive plug and play method that works-very simply but also has loads of options and features (many of which I havent a clue about!) Havent upgraded the firmware - currently on 1.03 (my motto is 'If it works dont mess with it') and it works perfectly. Running on BTYahoo Internet broadband - no probs. Only had it a day, but not had any reboot problems to date.
Range is fine for my 3 bedroomed terrace house. Works through floorboards plus a foot thick solid brick wall at a range of 10 meters or so, plus over 3 floors. Signal strength drops to half but quality and speed still high at furthest range.
Overall well chuffed.
I have read other reviews but my experiences show this (DG834G) to be easy to use and good value for money.
I have had one for 18 months and use a desktop iMac, Apple PowerBook laptop and a PDA - 2 of three are used wirelessly.
For a straightforward(ish) family/business set up I doubt you'll beat it.
The only reason this is not getting 5 stars seems to be because a handful of people have had poor experiences and give it 1 star (which may or may not be fair) - it could be that these people are having broadband rather than router problems of course.
Strongly recommended.
Easy to set-up, packed with features, no problems with wireless range or speed. Also, it never seems to loose sync. with the exchange (unlike my old DG814).

Absolutely impossible to access broadband with TalkTalk.
Gave up after 8 hours of trying, endless phone calls.
No documentation on how to figure. Useless helpline.
Avoid like the plague
I had previously given this product a less than glowing review. I had to have the first box replaced under warranty when the wireless capability ceased working. The replacement box arrived but was trouble from the word go. It kept dropping the connection to the outside world, wireless coverage was poor and the only way to reconnect to my ISP was to power down the box and power it up again. The connection and the wireless coverage seemed to be deteriorating and I was going to throw the box away and start again. In one final act of desperation I installed the 2.x firmware. Amazing. All the problems sorted. Dropped connections are always restarted automatically and the need for this is rare as the connection stays up now for days at a time. Wireless range improved considerably too. What a change!
Very easy to setup and configurate in order to get initial broadband connection. Buy this with the wg111t for an easy setup which easily detects your broadband connection. Using the dg834gt and wg111t together it is very easy to set up your wpa encryption protection. I however would after installation update the firmware on both these items from the netgear website.
