Fuse Problems
Reviewed by Sam. Review Posted 04/11/2008

I've had this product for about a year now, and this is the second time it's broken. The first time I sent it back to Dabs and either fixed the problem or sent me a new one. Either way, well done to them. This time it's broken again and I've decided to see if it was the fuse. Basically once it's plugged in and working it'll work fine, but if you move it be very careful. The problems only arose once I moved the bass amp.

Good product, but not without faults
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 05/02/2007

I've had my Z5500 for over 6mths now. Main problems are:
1. Constant hum. Logitech say this is normal and your speakers are too close. Nonsense. Hum can be heard on the other side of a 9’x12’ room.
2. A popping when speakers are in use. Logitech exchange for this.
3. The main control unit has a cable about 1.5m long which connects to the sub. If your sub is further away and you still want control at computer you're stuffed. On last enquiry Logitech don’t offer a longer cable.
4. The detection of DTS could be easier. The settings can be annoying and involve much trial and error - may be dependant on DVDplayer software thus may be different for you.

I’ve an inexpensive 5.1 setup for a TV. TV 5.1 has much more clarity, depth of sound and power of delivery. DVDs shine on a dedicated system. Don't go believing Z5500 match a dedicated system.

Z5500 are probably amongst the best computer speakers. Highly rated in reviews. Good quality. Remote control. Good looks. Meaty bass.

Logitech Z-5500

I recieved my speakers yesterday and the poor delivery guy diden´t look pleased when he saw the size of the box! haha.

I was suprised how big the subwoofer was, taking up 70% of the box size. Length of wiring is good, althought if you want to wall mount your speakers like I have, u will need your own screws.

Sound quality is good, not as loud as I would of hoped as I upgraded from a Similar creative digital system of half the power... The range of sound is definatly better, no distortion even at full volume.

195 Quid is a bargan but realistically only buy them if your upgrading from cheap speakrs... going digital to digital, it´s dificult to notice that much differance.

Good product and well worth at least 4 stars!

Great…when working :(

I wanted this speaker for a while, I picked them over the Creative Gigaworks S750 model because I had heard of a lot of issues troubling that system, plus this system had the advantage of a built in decoder. The sound was great, very powerful, huge sub. But the first one I got failed after two weeks, hardly used it, dabs being good at service came and picked it up and shipped out a whole new system very quickly. But after a month of use the second system died again, so decided to get a refund, which dabs sorted out no problem. I might have been unlucky but it annoying when I picked it over the creative system and it seems just as bad on reliability. So just a little word of warning for you out there.

impressive but...

Well, I can agree with most of the articles, I've had these for over 2 years and they're impressive sound wise and the control unit (and remote) makes life very easy. HOWEVER, returned a year ago because of a defect with the control unit (you can't use it without this) and I've just had the same fault occur again. Disappointing that this has happened because otherwise I'd be giving it top marks.
