This is a fantastic product, I bought one to upgrade my 40gb PS3, and it is very easy to install. And the service was first class. I ordered it on Saturday lunchtime, and it arrived at 0900 Tuesday morning. Five star all round.

Excellent for PS3
Reviewed by . Review Posted 23/03/2008

I purchased one of these to upgrade my 60GB PS3. It was nicely packaged, and delivery from Dabs.com was quick. Easy to install and although it is 320GB, the OS software on the PS3 uses a lot of the space - I have 298GB after the install which is still a nice bump up from less than the 60GB I had. The scorpio is as quiet as the stock drive, and at good price. With games likely to have install options, such as Devil May Cry's 5GB install, and TV recordings via PlayTV, this upgrade is an absolute must, especially for 40GB PS3 owners. Tip: get a 2.5" enclosure for your stock drive and use as an extra drive via USB for your PS3 or computer.

Very nice drive

Everyone else seems to be using this to upgrade their PS3. Just to let you know there are other uses for it!

I installed one in an Akasa P2 Series drive enclosure which makes for a very flexible, fast portable hard drive unit.

Recommended.

This is a Great PS3 Upgrade drive
Reviewed by Dee. Review Posted 14/10/2008

As mentioned by others this is a fantastic product, I bought one to upgrade my 40gb PS3, and it is very easy to install. I ordered it on Sunday afternoon, and it arrived at 10.00 Tuesday morning. One thing to note as mentioned before if you are upgrading your PS3 you must have the latest firmware update ready on USB memory stick or removable Hard drive. Installing the new drive into the PS3 didn't bring up any "reformat drive" options, until I downloaded the 2.43 firmware available from the sony website and put file in folder
PS3\UPDATE\(firmwarefile)
Of your storage device hd or memcard. once formatted total size of disk will be 298GB But Overall Great Value. 5 STARS all round.

Ps3 compatible
Reviewed by Dean Allen. Review Posted 20/08/2008

I bought this to replace my PS3 40gig one. I can confirm this drive is compatible with the PS3 as it has a standard layout on the power and SATA connectors. One thing to note if you are upgrading your PS3; have the latest firmware update ready on USB memory stick or removable HD. All the upgrade guides omit this information. Installing the new drive into the PS3 didn't bring up any "reformat drive" options, until I had the 2.41 firmware available via USB memstick.

Replacement drive for Macbook
Reviewed by Phil. Review Posted 20/04/2008

I bought this drive to upgrade my Macbook and it is very good. I'm not technical but it seems just as fast as the stock drive and does not appear to get any hotter. I am unable to determine if it is more power hungry. Certainly the extra capacity is fantastic. Instructions for installing it were found by 'Googling' 'replace Macbook Hard drive'.

One problem I encountered was in 'seeing' the drive when I booted up from the installation DVD. This is because you have to run Disc Tools from the installation menu bar and partition the drive before the laptop will recognise it. Simple.

I transferred data across by purchasing a Sata to USB adapter from ebay and created a bootable backup using 'Superduper' backup software for Macs. It now works just like the original drive!

A fabulous drive. Ronseal!
Reviewed by Simon. Review Posted 26/03/2008

An excellent product. Would be nice if 7200 rpm, but then 7200 drives get too hot and consume a lot of juice! Great in the PS3. Also a 1/8H drive so will fit in most compact notebooks which the 1.3cm drives don't.

With regards comments about shock resistance - it is important to note that the figures are quoted in g^2/Hz. To convert simply to g you need to multiply by the frequency, and take the square root. At 500Hz this gives a rating of 1.4g. At very low frequencies the vibration resistance will be much more similar to the shock resistance (ie 300g).
Make no mistake this is an extremely resilient drive. Incidentally the Fujitsu drive quoted above (4MRYWS) has a tolerance of 9.8 m/s2 that is 1g operating and 49 m/s2 or 5g off - that is a misprint.
This one does what it says on the tin!
