Another great easy, simple product: you just plug it in and go!
Plugged straight in between XP Pro and Vista boxes each with Intel PRO1000/GT adapters -> copies 100Mb file in under 10secs. Runs cool & silent, uplinks to 10/100 switch via normal cable.
At Nami IT Solutions Ltd we have been using this Netgear gigabit product range for some time and have never had any issues with any of them so we can happily confirm that this item can be used for almost any network range.
This is a basic product, just plug in the power and plug in your Cat 5 network cables and off you go! Works straight away with no problems. Runs completely silently (no fans) not crashed yet and been running over a month non-stop now. Can't say I have noticed any difference in performance over my 10/100 switch, but this is overkill for what I need. I have it plugged into a wireless AP and ADSL Router with no problems, I have 2 windows 2000 servers and one Windows XP all with gigabit NICs directly plugged in.
No problems here - just pnp
Beware that this item does not appear to be compatible with all GB Ethernet interfce cards. It would not connect at 1Gbps with my Atheros AR8121/AR8113 (built into my ASUS P5Q Pro Motherboard) or my NetGear GA311 PCI adapter using known, good cables, though neither has any problem connecting at 1Gbps to other GB rated devices. I have since read of others who have had similar issues. It appears to be some inflexibility in the way it negotiates the speed of connection. Even with both devices set manually to 1Gbps, it would still only connect at 100Mbps. Ended up reluctantly returning the item.
