Write a review for the D-Link ShareCenter Solo 1 Bay NAS Network Storage Enclosure here!
Seems fine - latest firmware upgrade fixes the power management issue so the drive now powers down if not accessed and spins up again on access.
Fan has never needed to run on mine - unit doesn't get hot.
Will this work with a none SATA drive?
Purchased a DNS-313 along with a Samsung Spinpoint T166 400GB 7200RPM S300 8MB, installation onto my network was a painless procedure and was done in less than 10 mins.
I have a few issues though, though there is a feature to power the drive down, it doesn't it constantly spins while the DNS-313 is powered.
The DNS-313 fan goes constantly unless product is unplugged from the mains.
The Memeo Autobackup software doesn't work, I suggest using XXcopy and creating a batch file to do the job.
The good.
1. Easy to setup.
2. Small, unobtrusive
3. Looks neat.
The Bad
1. File access times are hit and miss.
2. The units admin software intermittently will not save data.
3. As another reviewer noted this unit does not go to standby mode.
4. Unit gets hot but fan does not operate. May be related to the more serious issues below
The Ugly
1. Copying large amounts of data to the device results in a copy failure with a warning that the specified network name is no longer available
2. On one occasion the unit hung completely.
3. Restarting the unit loses users network assignments (repeatedly)
Conclusion.
The DLink doesn’t inspire trust which is not good in a storage device. I suspect the real issue may be that the processor is simply not fast enough to cope with transfer rates a gigbit network connection provides.
Icy Box do some interesting SOHO NAS boxes. I would look at these instead.
I have owned this unit for around 4 months now. As supplied the unit was pretty much unusable returning read/write failures where more than a few hundred files were copied. Eventually a firmware fix resolved most of these issues though copying large numbers of files from/to the device is still a bit problematic. The firmware update also fixed an issue where the unit did not go to standby. Another problem which the firmware has failed to resolve is performance. On our 1 Gbyte network copying a 3.5Gbyte test file to another workstation takes about 1 minute 20 seconds. Copying to the DNS313 takes around 11 minutes Given the performance and more importantly the reliability issues I would look for something other than the DNS313 Note for DABS sales – a number of negative reviews including my own seem to have disappeared from this item.
