Write a review for the Belkin Wireless N+ BT/ADSL Modem Router here!
Fast delivery as usual.
Attached to BT line, ran setup, no need to do any manual setup, up and running with wireless connection in about 10 to 15 mins, but best of all the broadband speed went from an average of 0.5 meg to an average of 3 meg, and I can use the laptop anywhere in the house.
So I am very pleased with it.
This is a very good modem/router. I had it up and running using Sky Broadband in 15 mins. From previous reviewer, I had a problem using it with XBOX Live, quick look on Xbox.com/support, and I was connected. Very good range and speed. Highly recommended
Chose this because -Better connectivity (bandwidth/reliability) -USB connection for external hard drive. -Eco-mode: Disable wireless during the night. Only having a Netgear834 to compare against, setup was clunky & could be clearer. By the 3 or 4th time I was a Pro! Lot of intermittent faults: Wireless drop-outs, unexplained 'limited connectivity only' resulting in rebooting router regularly. Connectivity worse than Netgear 834G, Storage Manager software is poor (unintuitive, doesn't do what says on the tin). Had to manually map a drive to the external hard drive (not difficult, but not met expectations. Eco-mode for wireless did not work. Period. So sent it back, asked Dabs to replace (they were great). Everything on 2nd one works (though wireless eco-mode still needs an occasional reboot to wake up, may give up on this). Still had to Map Drive to external hard drive, but no great hardship. So - it's good, but you have to be patient, persistent and like a challenge!
Eco-mode is rubbish. You need to reboot router or disconnect & reconnect to re-establish network connectivity. Basics are good, they should test it better before releasing.
I can confirm Jim’s comment re the Ethernet ports not being gigabit. At the time his comment appeared, my N+ modem router was already on its way via Santa. Given how widely this router is listed (and even magazine reviewed) as a gigabit router, I sought confirmation of the port speed from Belkin. I don’t know whether to be more worried by the fact that three email enquiries to the support line were totally ignored than by the fact that the telephone support line confirmed that all N+ routers had gigabit ports! Caveat Emptor! This said the router installed without problems and wireless is sound.
Please be aware it is only the cable version that has gigabit ports. This version the ADSL one is only 10/100. Also if you plan on using this for Xbox Live good luck !!!
Could not get it to connect to xbox live at all - tried everything including two calls to Belkin tech support who advised changing MTU on the 360 !!!! which is not possible
Other than that seems very good
I got 1 of these so I could use Belkin and adapters to ensure N compatibility. Mixed results. The router won't restore from saved settings; Xbox config involved disabling the firewall, reenabling firewall, configuring DHCP and then configuring it "backwards" on the list (took me hours to work that out). Current firewall status is off (why?), and some Xbox games still think it is on and set to strict! Web interface often doesn't display properly under IE8 (inc compatibility mode) or chrome. Lack of advanced features c.f dlink 624t (old router - worked well with Xbox) and I haven't yet found anything useful via telnet. Wifi works well on the whole. Connecting network USB-hub (belkin) gives very slow access to it's web interface, but internet fine(?). DMZ lost its settings. Blue lights nice, but would be better if I could switch them off. Not tried other N routers so can't fully compare, but be prepared to return or have a challenging time setting up!
