Titan M and security updates
Pixel's Titan M is a custom-made, built-in security chip that helps secure the operating system and your most sensitive data, such as your passwords. Titan M makes guessing passwords more difficult by limiting the number of attempts so that it’s harder for someone other than you to unlock your Pixel.
And, with face unlock on Pixel 4, you can quickly and securely unlock or approve payments just by looking at your Pixel. Face unlock uses facial recognition technology that is processed on your device, so images of your face are never saved or shared with other services. To protect your privacy and security, the face data used to authenticate you is securely stored in Pixel's Titan M security chip and is never made available to the rest of your phone or the operating system.

Up to date for three years
With Pixel, you get the latest OS and security updates for at least three years. Pixel receives over-the-air updates directly from Google, and automatically downloads and installs them in the background so that you can keep using your phone.

Your Pixel uses several Google services to help protect you against malware, enhance your network security and notify you of potential phishing attempts.
- Google Play Protect checks that apps you download are safe to use.
- Chrome Safe Browsing helps ensure that each website that you visit and file that you download using your Chrome browser is safe, alerting you if it's suspicious.
- Wi-Fi Assistant helps to protect your data against potential attacks when you're on public Wi-Fi by routing all of your network traffic through a private network.
- Find My Device helps you to track your Pixel in case it’s lost or stolen, and allows you to lock or even erase it. Even if your Pixel gets stolen and erased, it won't work without your Google Account password.
- App permissions offer greater control over your location data. Give specific apps access to your location in the background or only while you’re using the app – or not at all.
