Unstable software

I had an older version of this scanner which was, like other HP products up to then, fast, efficient and as solid as a rock. It got involved in a lightning strike so had to be replaced. This HP5590 is by comparison a waste of time, largely because of the software which has so many fgeatures it can't stand up. I'm constantly battling to stop it automatically doing things I don't want. I'm faily experienced at all this but the way this keeps failing in different ways and then works and then doesn't again has wasted hours. It has been difficult to find these features at this price until now when there is now competition. Any other scanner must be better than this. It's the software that's the problem but upgrades and re-installs fail to fix the unreliability.

The software that goes with this is way too complex. The hardware itself is fine but the hassle factor is huge. I wish I had bought something else.

HP ScanJet 5590 software problems

I purchased one of these three months ago and the scanning and copying process hangs most of the time (at least 75% of the time, sometimes worse). Even after two software reinstalls it continues to fail. Base unit was replaced, but same problems occured.
