Early days - NB Callsign!!
Reviewed by Martin Evans. Review Posted 07/01/2016

One month into buying the product, is too early to really say how good it is (Ask me if it’s still working in 25 years, like my phone at home). The main reason, for reviewing, is a problem we had getting it to work with “Callsign” (BT service where you can have different numbers on one line, that ring differently, so you can identify them). I was told that the local exchange sends a signal to the phone and that the phone reacts to this. However it seems that in the case of the 2600 Quad, Callsign only works correctly, if Melody 2 ringtone is selected. This is not made clear in the instructions and I suspect it is just down to luck (If there was a default option, logic would suggest it be option or “Melody” 1). I have made BT aware of this and suggested they try this at other exchanges, to see whether our results are repeated, with a view to updating the operating manual.

Perhaps, like lots of things these days, they are overly complex, possibly in an effort to satisfy what seems to be a public demand for trivial entertainment; so far as I am concerned, a phone is a tool, not a toy and I don’t care what it sounds like, so long as I know what it’s doing.

Overall I found it pretty easy to set up for my requirements (Callsign issue excepted) and I think I was able to work most of it out for myself. No doubt there are features for which I will find no use but I’ll leave those to the gadget freaks to review.

I would add that the wireless range distances seem a little optimistic.

  • Overall 4*
  • Ease of use 3*
  • Value for money 5*
