Wireless LAN or “Wi-Fi” is everywhere – it’s used every day for our smartphones, laptops, tablets and now, even home multimedia. Wireless LAN provides convenience, flexibility and freedom. But with today’s expectation that it be widespread added to the volume of use, it’s become ever more important to control, monitor and optimise performance.
DrayTek provides a single Wi-Fi network across multiple access points. Enabling your students and staff to log on in one part of the network, then move throughout without losing their connection.
Install DrayTek access points in optimum locations and you can manage them all centrally. Ensure coverage across your whole site without worrying about your people being able to get online.
Management functionality is already built into DrayTek business class routers. Even better, the DrayTek solution includes a range of managed wireless access points to suit the budget and environment it’s needed in – so you can be sure there’s a solution that’ll work for you.
Get a zero/low cost wireless controller. Managed wireless is built into DrayTek’s standard routers (Vigor 2860 and 2925). No need for additional hardware, software, licensing or a specialised controller.
In both provision and ongoing management. With DrayTek, a network administrator can configure an access point to the needed spec just once. Then using the provisioning tool, it can be uploaded to multiple devices. Any troubleshooting or needed changes can then be made from a central controller.
It's also really easy to manage your network with a simple, yet thorough set of reporting tools including traffic graphs, AP status, station lists and an AP map.
Security and authentication are always a key feature with DrayTek routers. Their built-in firewall protects against attacks including Denial of Service and IP-based attacks, as well as access by unauthorised remote systems. Your wireless, Ethernet and VPN are also protected by various systems.
On top of this, the latest ('Version 3') DrayTek object-based firewall gives you even more flexibility. You can create combinations of users, rules and restrictions to suit your learning environment – making it truly bespoke to your school’s needs.
The Vigor 2860 now also allows selective direction firewall rules of LAN to WAN, WAN to LAN or LAN to VPN. Added to this, you’re now able to apply Quality of Service Assurance selectively, to specific users.
DrayTek’s wireless LAN management allows you to ‘load balance’ your wireless traffic by setting maximum capacities for each access point (AP). This can be done either by the number of active users or by current traffic levels.
Worried that’d mean some people not getting access? Don’t be. For high numbers of users, traffic is equally balanced across all your available access points to provide optimum performance.
For ease of deployment, a pre-set configuration can be enabled so that when you add any new access points, as your network grows, it’s a simple process to configure them to fit your existing system.
To help your school avoid interference from other local access points. In areas with a large number of local businesses or homes, many Wi-Fi networks can be visible and that often causes interference. Using DrayTek’s dual band capability (AP0900 and AP910c) models, interference can be greatly reduced, which will help you to have high performance throughout your network.
